That is what the doctor told my mother. I was six months old. I was dying of cholera in a Luanda hospital. Around me, mothers wept for sick children who did not survive three hours.
I lasted almost two years.
The young man who chose the sea, then the world.
In his youth, Emiliano embraced the discipline and duty of the Angolan Navy. The salt, the orders, the silence between watches — they taught him to listen before speaking, and to act once decided.
He then crossed continents to advance his studies in the former Soviet Union, specializing in Political Military Sciences. Years away from home stretched his understanding of people, power, and the long arc of nations. He learned that courage, more often than not, is the simple act of stepping into the unknown without a promise that someone will catch you.
And then came Sónia.
